The first waking thought of the day holds a special sort of significance, like a bridge between two worlds, a message shared between your subconscious and conscious mind.
In it is brilliance, power, insight, conclusion, question, perspective, all in a flash.
It can come as a word or image, an idea, a memory, something forgotten. The word can be one you’ve never heard or don’t know the definition of. It can be a word in a foreign language.
Sometimes I wake up with a single word, and it comes into play that day in some way—that, or it is trying to get my attention and tell me something. Sometimes it needs to be unpacked. Sometimes it provides an overarching theme to my life that I had not seen.
I have been a student of my “waking thought” for years, and it never ceases to amaze me.
This is an invitation to start paying attention to yours, if you don’t already.
✴ If your subconscious mind were a landscape, what does it look like right now?
✴ What recurring dreams or symbols have shown up in your life? What do you think they are trying to tell you?
✴ How do you feel when you first wake up in the morning? What thoughts or emotions are usually present in that liminal space?
✴ At what time of day do you feel most connected to your intuition?
✴ What messages have come to you in dreams that you wish you’d paid more attention to?
✴ What are some dream characters, landscapes, or feelings that still linger in your conscious mind? What might they represent?
✴ Do you ever feel like dreams offer a truer version of reality than waking life? Name a dream(s) where this felt accurate.
✴ What parts of yourself feel more alive or expressive in dreams than in waking life? Or what emotions or experiences surface in your dreams that you might be repressing or avoiding during your waking life?
✴ How do your morning rituals support or disrupt your connection to your intuition and subconscious mind?
With the recent Mercury conjunct Neptune in Aries for the first time in our lifetimes, I thought this would be an opportune time to create space for dreams.
